Meet Alex,

Founder & Artist

Interview with Alex

Could you tell us a little bit more about yourself and what made you start the business?

I studied architecture in France at the ENSA Normandie and graduated with my masters degree in 2014. Following my graduation, I moved to the UK and settled in Glasgow where I worked as a visualisation artist for a couple of years before taking a career break. I eventually realised that working in an office environment and seating in front of a screen all day wasn’t for me. That’s when I started to work in cafés and shops, jumping from one job to another - I was really unfulfilled and felt like I was in a dead-end. In the summer of 2018, I joined a pottery workshop and threw my first pots. I liked working with my hands and decided to rent a small space at my local studio to practice a little more regularly. At that time pottery was just a hobby but it quickly became an obsession which led me to set up my own studio in early 2019. When I first started out, I was working two part-time jobs in a shop and a café. After a few months, I couldn’t bare working odd jobs anymore so I took the decision to work full-time in the studio and share my journey on Instagram where I sold my first pieces. At some point, sales started to pick up so I created a website with a small shop section. Last summer, I started to receive enquiries from shops and small restaurants which helped me get where I am now.

What inspires your work?

As a potter, I mainly focus on tableware though I also enjoy making one-off and decorative pieces. My work suggests a minimal approach to pottery, characterised by clean lines and subtle colours. I always work with restraint and favour simple processes, embracing the natural beauty of materials.

What is the most important thing for you in your business?

The most important thing for me is to stay away from trends and aim to make honest pieces that reflect my convictions and who I am.

A little story or an anecdote you would like to share?

I enjoy my solitude very much but I could do with a studio dog!
